Philippe RICORDEL is a professional French photographer, very early passionate about the image, he becomes a tireless traveler who has lived in several countries and who travels the world in the quest for images of wild animals. In his quest to show the beauty of the wild spaces where nature is not yet «dominated» by human, he takes you on a trip around the world, from the polar lands to the heart of the tropical forests with a predilection for Asia and Oceania. Always with the willingness to describe the wild life as he sees it, as he's living in the moment, this in an approach both naturalistic and artistic, he's also using video to illustrate the natural stories he captures. If the image is beautiful, then beyond the testimony, it may be emotion, the soul, which will make the public more aware of the need to preserve what I offer them to see. And if my work is only a tiny fraction of what we shall make, and it is for everyone to be aware of the nature around them and the absolute necessity to protect them, then yes, I will have achieved my goal.”

Exposition

Saying that China is a country of mountains can be surprising at first sight, and however, nearly 70% of the Chinese territory is at an altitude above 1000m. It is in a tiny part of these mountains, in western China that we can meet the two species of rhinopithecus in the country. It is the Biet rhinopithecus and the Roxellane rhinopithecus. It was long believed that these two species were extincted or endangered. The ecology of the Biet’s Rhinopithecus was virtually unknown until the 1990s, and nowadays, knowledge about the specie remains extremely fragmentary. The Roxellane rhinopithecus is somewhat more common, and a little better known. The two species are living at high-altitude, the Roxellane rhinopithecus from 1800 to 2400m, while the Biet rhinopithecus is the primate living at the highest elevation in the world, between 2800 and 4200m above sea level. These two species have an "endangered" status on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List. The 24 images presented are the result of several stays among the two species. A film dedicated to Roxellane Rhinopithecus will be projected continuously on a screen during the festival.
