Hugo PICHOL
France
Photographs
Aquatic biologist and underwater photographer, Hugo PICHOL is passionate about aquatic environments. His first playgrounds are the torrents and mountain lakes of Savoie, his native region. Later, his passion drives him to explore and study various aquatic environments across France. Witness to their beauty but also the pressures and degradation threatening them, he decides to take his camera underwater. From clear water sources to marshes to rivers, he strives to reveal the endangered beauty of these environments right in your backyard.
Exposition
In our modern society, everyone is aware of the crucial importance of water and its current and future challenges related to climate change. Yet, aquatic environments continue to deteriorate in relative indifference. So why such disinterest in these environments from the general public? Could it be that the gaze of a pike moves us less than that of a fox cub emerging from its den, or that a toad is less captivating than a lynx?
Jacques-Yves COUSTEAU said, “People protect what they love and they love what has touched them.” This is why the exhibition “Fluviatilis” takes you below the surface to try to amaze you with the hidden beauty in the lakes and rivers right next door.
