and literary news such as climate change, biodiversity loss, the human-animal relationship or even species monitoring. We are unveiling the official poster of the 28th Festival Photo Montier: you will certainly ask us what this powerful and amazing photo represents!
This golden shell is signed by Laurent BALLESTA, a famous French photographer, diver and marine biologist. He will be one of our patron in 2025!
This photo is titled « La limule ».
This arthropod, of which there are 4 species in the world, was photographed at a 15-20 meters depth, in the muddy depths of Pangatalan Island in the Philippines. The horseshoe crab has existed for more than 400 million years and has hardly evolved.
The photograph received the 2023 Grand Prize of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year, famous nature photography contest of the Natural History Museum of London.
Our desire to highlight an unknown and fascinating animal, associated with our theme 2025, focused on exploration and the Year of the Sea, guided our choice of the visual!
When Nature becomes a work of art, it is in « Montier » and its surroundings (Haute-Marne & Marne, Grand Est Region) that it will take up the position.
From the depths of the sea to the star-filled worlds, from the most microscopic species to the vast and infinite environments, set off to discover the continents and let yourself be carried away by the spirit of discovery. Let yourself be guided by the adventures of our explorers ancestors who traveled and traversed seas and oceans, and allowed us to know the world!
See you in the fall, to experience the biggest wildlife and nature photo festival in Europe! An event for young and old, to share with family or friends!
A word from the graphic designer who created the model: Mathias GROSCLAUDE (Aube – 10)
“For the 3rd consecutive year, I had the honor to create the poster of the Montier Festival with for this edition an amazing photograph of Laurent Ballesta.
It highlights the horseshoe crab, a marine animal little known to the general public and has been on earth for 450 million years!
This prehistoric animal, fascinating for its resilience and ability to survive through the ages, is however today a victim of overfishing, notably for its pharmaceutical virtues.
The idea was therefore to engage the public on this endangered species by staging it in this new edition.
For the realization of the poster, I worked on the texts and graphic elements with a dominant golden color, emblematic of the animal’s shell.
A navy blue/turquoise gradient enhances the dark atmosphere of the depths and some illustrations evoke the first marine explorations.”
