Gilles Martin spent the first years of his life on the riverside of the Loire in Touraine, where his parents lived and where his father painted watercolours on the river. This is how he learned to discover nature, then to photograph it. Photographer-reporter for thirty years, he is specialized in wildlife and scientific photography. Today, Gilles Martin reinvents his approach to photography to talk about nature in a different way by street art campaigns and happening in New York and Paris. Its goal: Giving in the image of nature more depth by a engaged and powerful message to question human on environmental issues.

Dive into the abyss! Large-format pictures to reveal the tiny and fascinating life of the great depths, here is the great idea of the exhibition «Secrets of the Abyss»! Gilles Martin spent hours behind a microscope and a camera taking a portrait of the fauna of the abyss… Today he shares his encounters with these unknown marine animals, which have amazing forms and strange lifestyles. His pictures are the result of a collaboration with the IFREMER, which has driven the photographer in its research program «Why not the abyss?». Since 2017, Gilles Martin has been documenting this great scientific project that aims to better understand the fauna of the abyss…
