After working with light in Iceland and Greenland, Jean DISCOURS’ photographic work now focuses on portraits of trees and forests in the Massif Central. He pays particular attention to the quality of his prints, which he largely produces in his studio, where he also creates artist’s books. He collaborates with several international magazines dedicated to landscape photography, such as Eléments magazine and On Landscape magazine.
He creates portraits of trees and forests using long focal lengths and a very soft light that minimizes shadows, revealing only the colored lines and points that characterize the forest portrait.
Lines and points – that’s how Jean perceives landscape photography.

Photographing “en plein air”
I’m ready. The camera is out of the bag, my gaze wanders through the dim light of dawn or a cloud-laden sky.
I love being surprised by the light. Absent at first, it sometimes appears where least expected. One must choose, between the intended composition and the capture of a fleeting brightness.
Not pressing the shutter, waiting for the light that will sculpt the landscape, accepting to leave without an image—this is what makes photographing on location so exhilarating.
The forest emerges from the shadows, revealing a language unknown to the impatient. The terrain takes shape—fine lines spaced out or compressed into mass, lit dots like scattered stitches forming unexpected patterns.
Beeches and firs trees orchestrate a dance, claiming space. The curtain rises.
