Photographs
Photographer, author, and trainer, Lionel MONTICO has a particular attraction to wide open spaces and wildlife. He has been traveling the world for over 15 years. A member of the Hemis.fr photo agency, his images are regularly published in magazine press.
Throughout his travels, he discovered Madagascar and instantly fell in love with the Red Island. For the past 10 years, he has returned regularly, spending two months a year there. He explores the land with a sensitive eye, capturing an island of exceptional yet fragile natural wealth, and a profoundly welcoming population living in moving poverty. In recent years, he has been developing a unique exhibition and book project to showcase the beauty of Madagascar.
Exposition
This exhibition is an invitation to explore Madagascar through the gazes that shape this unique island — between human resilience and the uncertainties of an endangered ecosystem.
The smiles of its people, despite economic hardship, reflect an incredible capacity to look to the future with hope and determination. The portraits captured reveal faces etched by poverty yet lit by warm smiles — powerful symbols of deep resilience in the face of daily challenges.
In parallel, the eyes of lemuriformes and other emblematic creatures of Madagascar tell a different story. These endemic animals carry in their gaze a darker future, shadowed by the constant threat of extinction.
