  Photographs

Originally from the Meuse region, Pierre-Lou CHAPOT explores nature photography through a variety of approaches. At times, he leaves the calm of wide open landscapes to pursue projects in close collaboration with ecologists, encountering worlds that are often unseen or little known.
Through a discreet and immersive approach, he observes the relationships between living beings, natural environments, and the people who study them. His photographic narratives invite us to question the way we perceive ecosystems and the processes that shape them.
Whilst studying life sciences, he prepared his first Art & Science collaboration in 2018, focusing on the monitoring of migratory birds. Since then, his projects have taken him to work alongside research teams in France and Northern Europe.

Exposition

Delve into the fragile and little-known ecosystem of the vernal pools in Finland’s boreal forest. In these temporary wetlands, water levels fluctuate considerably throughout the seasons. ‘Vernal’ means that they appear in spring, when rainwater and snowmelt accumulate in the micro-reliefs. With their cyclical variability, these ecosystems provide a unique habitat for a wide range of species, particularly in spring during the breeding season. Rarely considered, temporary ponds represent a crucial issue in sustainable forest management.
The exhibition is part of the POOL research programme. It offers an insight into the evolution of the landscapes and biodiversity of the vernal pools in Evo, in southern Finland.
