Alexis ROSENFELD discovered diving at the age of 8. He never stopped again, making the underwater world his playground. His journey allowed him to share the last expedition of Commander COUSTEAU in Madagascar, to follow a large part of the epic of the Comex and to participate in exceptional expeditions for 25 years. An explorer dazzled by the beauties and mysteries of the ocean, Alexis ROSENFELD has become, over the decades, an enlightened actor of the environmental cause. In 2018, Alexis Rosenfeld and UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission initiated their collaboration with the Coral Reefs Project, an issue for humanity. In January 2021, he began a new collaboration for the next 10 years “1 Ocean, the great testimony on the Ocean”

Started in January 2021, this project is carried out in close partnership with UNESCO and its Oceanographic Commission. For 10 years, «1 Ocean, the great testimony on the Ocean» will accompany a vast international program for the Ocean: the United Nations Decade for Ocean Science in the Service of Sustainable Development (2021-2030). We want “1 Ocean, the Great Testimony on the Ocean” to be first and foremost an exploration project. Indeed, we start from the premise that exploration is the very essence of knowledge. It is the basis of our knowledge of the world and the origin of science.

In the past, great explorers such as Haroun TAZIEFF, Theodor MONOD or Prince Albert 1st of Monaco, have made it possible to make important discoveries, to bring back unique collections but above all to constitute a formidable memory of the past. Photography is a “sample of time”. It has this amazing ability to immortalize, freeze, detail and date the memory of the moment. Linked to Science, it offers a unique means of passing on knowledge. The exhibition “1 Ocean, the great testimony on the Ocean” will present the first photographs of this ambitious project. We want to bring this notion of knowledge, the very essence of this project.
