The three Conservatoires of natural areas du Grand Est (CEN Champagne-Ardenne, Lorraine and Alsace) aim to preserve remarkable natural environments. For more than 30 years, they have been working as closely as possible to the territories, in partnership with elected officials, users and property owners. At the level of the Grand Est, they manage, in a partnership framework, more than 15,000 hectares of forests, lawns, marshes, ponds, meadows or bat habitats, spread over more than 1000 sites. The Conservatoires work on a daily basis, to strengthen and develop their network of preserved sites, through a 5-axis approach: • Know the natural heritage to protect it: carrying out inventories fauna-flora, ecological diagnostics, scientific monitoring • Protecting natural sites to preserve species • Managing sustainably to conserve biodiversity: drafting management planning documents, organization and monitoring of restoration and maintenance work, management in partnership with the agricultural world, etc. • Developing sites and welcoming the public: production of nature animations, awareness-raising materials, interpretive trails, etc. • Advisor for a sustainable management of the territory: advice to elected officials, participation in the country approaches, animation for the implementation of objective documents on Natura 2000 sites, etc. To carry out their missions, the Conservatoires rely on a multidisciplinary and complementary staff and many volunteers.
