ATHENAS is a wildlife conservation centre. Based in the Jura, it ensures the handling and care of animals of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Southern Haute-Marne, Ain and Northern Haute Savoie. Created in 1987, it has already welcomed more than 35,000 wild animals, from bats to golden eagles, including hedgehogs, turtles and snakes. It is the only wildlife protection centre, accredited and trained to take charge of injured or orphaned lynx, with the aim of treating them to release them into their natural environment. In addition to these actions of safeguard and care, the team of the Center also ensures the post-release follow-up of animals, by the installation of GPS and/ or VHF tracking systems, as well as the monitoring and protection of the population of Franc-Comtoise of Montagu's harriers (circus pygargus) (raptors nesting in cereals). Over the past few years, the association has been involved in the fight against wildlife trafficking, by participating in animal seizures, at individuals and in establishments.Exposition
