My name is Manon Berehouc. I am 26 years old and work as a naturalist, wildlife photographer, and filmmaker. I specialize in bats and their study, known as chiropterology.
I graduated in ecology and discovered my passion for caves and underground wildlife while studying in western France.
For more than seven years, I have explored caves and natural underground sites and taken part in winter bat surveys to help monitor hibernating populations.
In 2023, I made a short documentary called “Cavernicoles” about underground biodiversity. Wanting to share this hidden world with a wider audience, I later turned the project into a book and then an exhibition.
More than a project, “Cavernicole” is the result of years spent observing and studying these remarkable animals, and sometimes enjoying their surprisingly clumsy behaviour.
Exposition
The “Cavernicole” exhibition is the result of an immersive photographic journey into the world of bats and their underground habitats.
Through this series, I invite visitors to discover a unique adventure shaped by cave explorations, winter bat surveys, and fascinating encounters with these discreet nocturnal mammals.
More than a visual exploration, “Cavernicole” highlights the delicate relationship between humans and underground wildlife. Each photograph offers a glimpse into the lives of species that are often overlooked, yet play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.
The exhibition also draws attention to the fragility of the underground ecosystems they depend on and the importance of protecting them.
