Association des Photographes Animaliers Bretons (APAB)
http://www.apab-photo-nature.comFounded in 1985, the Association of Wildlife Photographers of Brittany (APAB) is composed of passionate artists from each of Brittany five departments. They all are very keen to show the art made from countless hours spent lying in wait for the perfect shot. Through exhibits, books and public presentations, they share with the public their enthusiasm and their photographs, along with an important message. Their common ethic hasn’t changed since the creation of the association. Since then, the method used by photographers has evolved, the environment has changed and natural spaces have been put in jeopardy, while the number of photographers keeps growing. More than ever, we must remain vigilant and work toward building relationship of respect with wild and free animals: the satisfaction of seeing birds, mammals, reptiles and others insects thriving in their natural environment will always prevail over the satisfaction granted by the photograph one set out to take.
The waters of Brittany are diverse as nature itself and one can come across tumultuous rivers or silent mirror-like lacustrine landscapes. Water, source of life everywhere, is a common good. It is thus crucial that we treat it with care, from the modest spring to the great ocean depths. Despite the growing pressure of human activity, aquatic life, birds, mammals, insects – even flowers, can still be found if you know where to look. For wildlife photographers, patience is the key to everything. Our greatest reward for it would be if our sense of wonder could inspire people to treat Nature with more respect… In the words of naturalist Robert Hainard, she is “our infinity”. Let us listen to her voice, to the birds singing, the water growling in the estuaries. Our hope is that mankind learns to listen before it is too late even for our own species. The photographs on display here are our way to do our part to try and bring people to respect wildlife. Every photographer at APAB wishes you a pleasant journey on our shores.
