Photographer SONAC has approached every subject as a portrait since 1996, seeking to capture not only appearance but presence and emotion. Her first encounter with animal photography in 1998 became the foundation of an enduring artistic practice. In 2010, following a long period of physical immobility caused by rheumatoid arthritis, she created Affichage Sauvage, a project that brought her photographs out of galleries and into public space. In dialogue with architecture, her ephemeral installations reintroduce animals into the urban landscape, inviting viewers to reconsider their relationship with the living world. Exhibited internationally in museums, festivals and cultural institutions, her work brings together portraiture, poetic urban intervention and a deep commitment to biodiversity.
Exposition
SONAC brings photography, architecture and the living world into quiet conversation through ephemeral installations where animals reappear within the urban landscape. Her images blend with walls, dissolve familiar boundaries and open a space between reality and imagination. Created in response to each site, they invite viewers to slow down and experience the city as a place of encounter. Once the work is installed, the artist waits for the right light and a fleeting moment before capturing the final photograph—the only lasting trace of the piece. Through these delicate apparitions, SONAC reflects on our relationship with the living world, rekindles the memory of threatened biodiversity and imagines new ways for humans, animals and places to coexist.
