Luca MELCARNE was born in 1998 in Gervanne, a small bucolic valley at the foot of the Vercors. As a child, he grew up in contact with this nature and never ceased to go through ridges and valleys. After an encounter with a large deer, the frustration of not being able to bring evidence back to his parents eats away at him. At 12, he borrowed his father’s camera and began photography. After his studies, the idea of leaving his mountains is unimaginable. He then becomes a mountain guide. In parallel, the photo continues to take more and more time. In October 2023, he won the prestigious Rising Star prize at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition in London, only from images taken in the Vercors.
Exposition
Pre-alpine territory, the Vercors is a massif with a great diversity of species. From the white steppes of winter to the blazing forests of autumn, from the tiny Eurasian pygmy owl to the gigantic Bearded Vulture.
Since his childhood, Luca MELCARNE has walked this massif, discovering the inhabitants of its mysterious forests and its vertiginous ridges. seasons after seasons and years of observation, in sometimes extreme conditions, Luca photographs this fauna, deep in these secret mountains.
