Le Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Champagne-Ardenne (the Champagne Ardenne natural spaces conservatory) is an association approved by the State and the Region, whose objective is the preservation of remarkable natural areas. For nearly 30 years, it has been working closely with the territories, in partnership with elected officials, users and property owners. Including 4 départements, it is managing, in a partnership, 4,326 hectares of forests, lawns, marshes, ponds, meadows and bat habitats, spread over 242 sites.
The conservatory daily works to consolidate and to develop its network of preserved areas, throughout 5 objectives : – Knowing the natural heritage to protect it : Creation of wildlife inventories, ecological diagnostics, scientific monitoring
– Protecting Natural Sites to Preserve Species : Animation for Land Tenure or Land Use Control
– Sustainable management for biodiversity conservation: Drafting of management planning documents, organization and monitoring of restoration and maintenance work, management in partnership with the agricultural community, etc.
– Valuing sites and welcoming the public: Creation of nature animations, awareness documents, nature trails, etc..
– Advising for a sustainable management of the area : Advice to elected officials, participation in “Pays”approaches, facilitation for the implementation of objective documents on Natura 2000 sites, etc. To carry out its missions, the Conservatoire relies on a multidisciplinary and complementary salaried team and numerous volunteers.
