Photographs
David Casartelli here! I’m a photographer based in Samoëns. Born in Switzerland, I’ve always lived in France, in Haute-Savoie. Of Swiss and Italian origin, I was brought up in an international environment. This openness to different cultures contributed to the birth of my passion for images. Photography came very quickly into my life, with a constant need to immortalise special moments in my travels. My second passion is the mountains. Whether it’s family hiking, climbing, mountaineering, ski touring or paragliding, I’ve always been in the mountains in one way or another, all over the world. The extreme natural and pure beauty of this environment deserves every care to protect it. Through photography, as a privileged witness and on my own humble scale, I try to capture the extraordinary ambiences that are offered to me to give them their place in eternity. Capturing the moment, anchoring it, sublimating it, rendering the emotion it has given me, transmitting it to as many people as possible while spreading a benevolent message of respect for Nature and passing on its treasure – these are the different axes that motivate my artistic approach. I want to take you with me on this beautiful journey and I hope that you will find the same enthusiasm that drives me in my collection “Elevation, Montagnes du Giffre & Mont-Blanc”.
Exposition
From Mont-Blanc to the Giffre Mountains, it’s just a giant leap. As soon as we rise above the Giffre mountains, Mont-Blanc appears in our field of vision, in all its splendour, imposing in its majesty. As it rose from the earth, Mont-Blanc shaped its environment and ultimately upset the relief of the surrounding pre-Alps. The Giffre mountains have been subjected to the telluric forces of erupting granite and the shaping of glaciers over the centuries. Today, this mountain range is full of unspoilt, authentic and wild geological treasures. Throughout the seasons, on skis, on foot and by paraglider, I like to venture there in search of strong, ephemeral and inspiring natural moments. At times, it’s like being in New Zealand or the Rockies. The steep cliffs, shaped by waterfalls, soothe us. Perched mountain pastures remind us how harsh life must have been on this side of the Alps. Winter snow softens certain slopes and wraps the summits in its soft whiteness. The four seasons are clearly marked by their Colors and shapes. These high-altitude, colourful places cradle my itinerary, as and when I feel like it. My exhibition project is a journey through the seasons in the middle of this land, a kind of call to slow down, to anchor ourselves in the moment, to redefine our priorities, in order to preserve this Nature that is so beautiful, so energetic and so vital.
