Photographs
Born in 1952, Alain Jouffray is an engineer by training. In particular, he was responsible for nature protection in Languedoc-Roussillon. In 1973 he discovered photography and ornithology almost simultaneously. Since, he has always remained a member of ornithological associations. He is a member of the Montpellier railway workers’ photo club and the Lattes photo 34 club (Fédération Photographique de France). He participated in the iconography of a number of books on birds. He is co-author photographer with Guilhem Lesaffre and Fernand Deroussen of the book “Maîtres chanteurs” published by EPA Hachette 2005. He published an article in English in the online journal ICM Photography Magazine (issue 5 June 2021, pages 252 to 265). Now he exhibits regularly every year with his photo clubs. He is interested in the artistic side of bird photography.
Exposition
In Montier in 2017, I discovered the ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) technique, which consists of photographing a subject on pause and voluntarily moving the camera during the break. I wanted to test the ICM on birds in flight. Unlike the yarn technique, the goal is not to obtain a clean part of the bird but rather an abstract and aesthetic painting. It is the results of this approach that are presented in this exhibition. I use breaks of about 1/8th of a second. This technique requires cropping and correcting exposure and saturation on the computer. I prefer to photograph colorful birds, here mainly photos of Rollers, Bee-eaters and Macaws. The images obtained are almost totally abstract and one can only rarely recognize the bird that has been photographed.
