Photographs
After obtaining a BTS in Nature Management and Protection, Lorraine BENNERY became a trainer for adults, in the same field.
She became a professional photographer in 2007, dividing her time between organising training courses and photographic trips, publishing books with Oiseau Plume éditions and shooting in France and abroad.
It was in 2007, that she discovered Madagascar and decided to devote several trips to it.
“We were going on a once-in-a-lifetime trip! In the end, the country won, my husband and me, over and the desire to see more and more and share our discoveries was the strongest.
Today, I’ve been able to admire and photograph 75 species of lemur, but I still miss some emblematic species. So I’ll be going back”.
Exposition
It is common knowledge that lemurs are endemic to Madagascar. However, little is known about their numbers (108 species), and even less about what makes them special: they are the smallest in the world, the only ones to live above water, eat bamboo and overwinter, all unique among primates. The island is home to 21% of the world’s primates, a heavy burden indeed. The latest IUCN red list reveals that 36% of primates considered ‘critically endangered’ are lemurs. Since 2007, I have photographed 75 species to show this exceptional diversity. Some nocturnal, some isolated in almost inaccessible places, from the most famous, recognisable among a thousand thanks to its ringed tail, to the rarest, numbering only a few dozen individuals. Here they are all together.
