France has 13 overseas territories spread over three oceans. Mainly island-based, the ultramarine territories possess nearly 80% of French biodiversity and 10% of global biodiversity. The geographical isolation of these territories has allowed the existence of unique species in these places, so-called endemic species. This isolation has also weakened these species, which must now face many threats: introduction of invasive alien species, climate change, degradation and loss of habitats. As such, 90% of the French endangered bird species are present in the French overseas territories. To protect them, the LPO and its ultramarine partners are implementing numerous actions and invite you to discover the most emblematic, endemic and threatened species of the French overseas territories.
